February’s launch of the Nitrous Oxide Focus Group at the University of East

Overview
The Nitrous Oxide Focus Group is a consortium-based research initiative established to explore the action of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N20). The multi-disciplinary team of scientists aims to understand the sources of this potent greenhouse gas, the chemistry and biology behind its production, its overall impact upon climate change and ultimately to develop techniques to mitigate its effect. Industry collaboration funding
Administered by EEDA, ICASE (Industrial Co-operative Awards in Science and Engineering) studentships are allocated to regional small and medium sized companies based within the East of England region to allow industry and commerce to forge closer links with universities and to draw on their expertise and facilities. Next steps:
An academic meeting is planned for the beginning of May 08 where scientists will discuss taking forward the issues raised at the launch event towards developing strategic research programmes that improve management of N20 emissions.
